The legacy of the period of ignorance (pre-Islam Jahiliyah period<\/em>) regarding women was dire. Women back then were treated as objects rather than human beings. In some cultures, they got buried alive or inherited.\u00a0 Still worse, women in some nations practiced self-immolation to join a deceased husband in the next life.<\/p>\n

Islam radically changed this miserable situation by unequivocally recognizing the humanity of women and emphasizing their rights.<\/p>\n

{So their Lord responded to them: \u201cI will never deny any of you\u2014male or female\u2014the reward of your deeds. Both are equal in reward.<\/strong>} (Aal `Imran 3:195)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

1.\u00a0Abu Hurairah<\/a> (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:<\/p>\n

2. Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:<\/p>\n

3. Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen are the twin halves of men.<\/strong>\u201d (Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi)<\/p>\n

4. Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet said:<\/p>\n

\u201cO Allah, [bear witness that] I sternly warn against violating the rights of the two weak folks: orphans and women<\/strong>.\u201d (Ibn Majah and Ahmad, graded Hasan by An-Nawawi)<\/p>\n

Special Status of Mothers<\/h2>\n

5. Abu Hurairah reported that a man came to the Messenger and asked:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018O Messenger of God, who is the person who has the greatest right on me with regards to kindness and attention?\u2019<\/p>\n

The Prophet replied, \u2018Your mother.<\/strong>\u2019<\/p>\n

Love Your Wife<\/h2>\n

6. Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:<\/p>\n

\u201cA believer must not hate a believing woman (i.e., his wife); if he dislikes one of her traits he will be pleased with another.<\/strong>\u201d (Muslim)<\/p>\n

7. Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet said:<\/p>\n
